Even though Lizzie is only one and won't remember any of this, I saw that as no excuse not to have a fabulous party with an adorable theme. After searching around for ideas, we decided on ladybugs. Here are some of the crafty ladybug-themed things we made for the party.
First, I made ladybug invitations and red and black spotted gift bags which I filled with candy (though I don't have pictures of them). I found the idea for the ladybug invites online and the ladybug gift bags kind of looked like this.
Shawn also painted two great signs...

I made a collage with pictures of Elizabeth with various family members...
These are little flowers with photos of Elizabeth from the last 12 months. Each flower has a different month's picture in its center. I thought it would be cute to see how much she's grown (get it, grown... flowers?)...
We decorated the house with flowers, leaves, and ladybugs made out of construction paper. The ceilings got bright-colored streamers and ladybug-spotted balloons (you can buy the balloons pre-spotted, but I couldn't find them in time, so my sister and I blew them up and then hand-dotted them with black paint)...

Lizzie also modeled her ladybug dress and antennae (the picture's a little blurry, but still cute)...
Here's Elizabeth with all her cousins as we get ready to sing "Happy Birthday" and cut the cake...
Hmmm... smashing cake is kind of fun (that's her cousin, Austin, "helping" with the cake eating)...
Here we are opening gifts. Elizabeth got a lot of wonderful presents from all her friends and family (the other kids in the photo are just some of her cousins, kindly modeling their ladybug antennae)...
Whew! The party was a lot of work, but also a lot of fun! I'm definitely glad we decided to do something a little different for her birthday. And I believe a good time was had by all! -- Lisa
