Our Second Visit

Shawn and I had another visit with J yesterday. At our initial meeting, we were talking about the level of openness we would be comfortable with and we said, "we'd love to have you come visit our house... if fact, if you want to come see it before the baby is born, that would be fine with us." We left it kind of open, but a few days after our meeting, I got an email from her asking if she could visit our home and meet some of our family.

We were excited, but again, nervous. Since we have such a big family (well, Shawn does), we only asked a few of his siblings to come over with their spouses and kids. All in all, we ended up having five adults and nine kids over. Now, a gathering of 19 people (if you count me, Shawn, J, her mom, and sister) is nothing to us, but I was worried that this might be a little too much for something that was supposed to be just a casual get-together.

My main fears were that 1) J won't like our house, especially the things we've selected for the baby room, 2) the two families will have an awkward meeting, or 3) that the whole visit will be too overwhelming and crazy.

As it turned out, the visit went great. The house met with their approval. Everyone got along very well. J assured me that it hadn't been too horribly crazy meeting all these new people. And, once again, I realized that I had panicked myself for no reason.

Shawn and I were both very glad to see her and talk to her in person again. We truly think she and her family are wonderful people and that we are very lucky that we are able to get to know them better in this short amount of time.

As always, keep us all in your prayers.
