Vacationing in Chicago: Day #1

Shawn and I are taking a little summer trip to Chicago with Shawn’s brother, Don, and his wife, Melissa. Today is the first day of our journey and we started out at 7:00 AM so we could make it to the Windy City in time to catch the 1:00 PM Cubs vs. Cardinals game.

Six hours, one time change, and several bathroom breaks later, we arrived at Wrigley Field and had fun in the sun for the first seven innings. Here’s Shawn and I in the stands…

And Don and Melissa…

Shawn and Don seemed excited to see Albert Pujols of the St. Louis Cardinals hit a home run out of the park (literally, it went over the bleachers and into the alley behind Wrigley. The Cubs fan that caught the ball threw it back onto the field). Sadly, our game day fun hit a snag when it started to rain...

We hung around the park for a while, but eventually decided to go across the street and have lunch at a local restaurant. Though the game resumed after an hour and a half, the Cubbies ended up losing 6-4.

We stayed on the southside of the city near downtown in a building owned by Don and Melissa’s company. The four of us shared a two-bedroom, two-bath apartment that was close to the subway. Here’s the view from the roof of our building (it overlooks Grant Park)…
